New Pots and Pans

I’ve wanted nice pots and pans for a really long time. Now, after months of trying to determine which pots and pans to buy, I finally settled on a set: the Cooking with Calphalon Refined Collection in stainless steel. I purchased them this last weekend and am really excited about them.

I needed a large set, because I wanted enough pans to cook anything and I tend to get carried away with things often. I also wanted everything to match. So I bought the 11 piece set pictured at the right, as well as several additional pans to complete my collection. A lot of the lids are standard sizes, so I planned my additional pan purchases so that I ended up with a lid for every pan—including all the omelet pans. I now own all of the items pictured here:

  • 8″, 10″, and 12″ omelet pans
  • 12″ covered sauté pan
  • 1 and 2 quart sauce pans
  • 8 quart stock pot
  • 8 quart multi pot with steamer and blanching baskets
  • 5 quart sauteuse pan
  • 2 quart chef’s pan

One of the significant factors in purchasing this specific set is the styling, particularly of the handles. I really like how they look. A lot. In fact, you should click on the images so you can admire them better. They match the rest of my kitchen decor and I especially like how they are not all rounded and downward curving like most that I looked at. And the fact that the handles are metal they are oven safe and broiler safe (the only exception is that the sauteuse is not broiler safe because it has a nonstick surface).

I might go back and also buy an 8″ or 10″ nonstick omelet pan too. Not sure yet.

It also turns out that all these pans take less room to store than all my previous pans, because my old ones were really mismatched and didn’t store as compactly. Now I’ve given away all my old pans, and just have my new ones.

Hopefully this means I will eat more …
