Keynes vs Hayek

This is really entertaining. And really educational. It's a summary of the debate between two pretty different schools of economic thought.
I love rap. And the ending is so appropriate.

New Blog Features

First off, I fixed the commenting problem. I added a math question that'll strip out spammers. Don't worry, I controlled myself—the math questions aren't too complex. I also added a Contact Me page. I had one on my blog when I was using Blogger, but hadn't gotten around to building one into this WordPress theme yet. Now I've done it, so feel free to use it if you want. And finally, I added a Pages of Note section to highlight significant past posts.

Viper

For some reason, recently I've regularly been feeling like my car is a target. I haven't felt comfortable even leaving my sunglasses in the car. It certainly doesn't help that the Honda Civic is the single most stolen car in a lot of states. I got a garage at my apartment temporarily, but for the monthly cost of the garage, I figured I could get a pretty nice security system. Introducing the Viper 5701 2-Way Security and Remote Start System. It's one of the most advanced security systems on the market with all kind of high tech features. It has 2-way communication with the remote, so the transceiver can check the status of the vehicle and is notified if anything trips the security system. It's integrated with the ignition and the starter, too, so it disables the ignition if the alarm goes off and can be remote started from 2000 feet away. Beyond that, it has a two stage impact sensor so it will give a warn away chirp on small impacts, I've got decals prominently placed in the windows, and the blinking blue arm LED noticeably lights up the interior at night. So it will deter any would-be thieves or vandals. All it has to do to be worth the purchase is deter one incident of any kind. But even if it doesn't, it's worth the piece of mind. I don't typically have any trouble sleeping at night, but now I can sleep even better.

Oakley Sunglasses

Yesterday I spent more money on a single pair of sunglasses than I've spent on all the other sunglasses I've purchased in my entire life combined. I've been shopping around for a really nice pair. I especially wanted something with really high quality lenses. So I bought Oakley Flak Jackets with hydrophobic polarized lenses. So far I really like them. They are really clear and I have noticeably less eye strain in really bright sunlight than my previous glasses. I think I'm definitely becoming a convert to Oakley sunglasses.

Spam Comments

I've had to temporarily disable commenting on my blog. My email and blog has been flooded by over 400 comments from spammers in the last 24 hours. Once this slows down or I set up a captcha form I'll enable comments again. If anyone legitimate has commented in the last 24 hours I likely marked your comment as spam.

100 Posts

I just noticed that this is my 100th post. It only took me 2⅓ years to do that, which is an average of one post every 8.55 days. Not too bad, considering I've taken months at a time off from blogging.

Health Care Proposals

I totally agree with Dr Miron.

New Pots and Pans

I've wanted nice pots and pans for a really long time. Now, after months of trying to determine which pots and pans to buy, I finally settled on a set: the Cooking with Calphalon Refined Collection in stainless steel. I purchased them this last weekend and am really excited about them.
Calphalon 11 Piece Pan Set Calphalon Multi Pot Calphalon Sauteuse Calphalon Chef's Pan
I needed a large set, because I wanted enough pans to cook anything and I tend to get carried away with things often. I also wanted everything to match. So I bought the 11 piece set pictured at the right, as well as several additional pans to complete my collection. A lot of the lids are standard sizes, so I planned my additional pan purchases so that I ended up with a lid for every pan—including all the omelet pans. I now own all of the items pictured here:
  • 8", 10", and 12" omelet pans
  • 12" covered sauté pan
  • 1 and 2 quart sauce pans
  • 8 quart stock pot
  • 8 quart multi pot with steamer and blanching baskets
  • 5 quart sauteuse pan
  • 2 quart chef's pan
One of the significant factors in purchasing this specific set is the styling, particularly of the handles. I really like how they look. A lot. In fact, you should click on the images so you can admire them better. They match the rest of my kitchen decor and I especially like how they are not all rounded and downward curving like most that I looked at. And the fact that the handles are metal they are oven safe and broiler safe (the only exception is that the sauteuse is not broiler safe because it has a nonstick surface). I might go back and also buy an 8" or 10" nonstick omelet pan too. Not sure yet. It also turns out that all these pans take less room to store than all my previous pans, because my old ones were really mismatched and didn't store as compactly. Now I've given away all my old pans, and just have my new ones. Hopefully this means I will eat more ...

The Utah Symphony 2011-2012 Season

I just realized that the Utah Symphony announced it's 2011-2012 season recently. I have never been more excited for a season. They are playing a lot of my favorite music. Check out the complete Utah Symphony concert schedule. I went through the schedule so to choose which concerts to get with my season tickets next year. Typically I go through initially and mark the absolutely can't miss concerts, the would really like to see concerts, and the would be good concerts and prioritize from there. I marked 14 absolutely can't miss concerts. Buying season tickets this year is either going to be a really difficult or really expensive. I can't wait.

New Search Functionality

I received a complaint today that the search functionality on my blog didn't work very well. So I upgraded it with new features to make my users' lives easier. Try it out:

Site Search

I really appreciate the feedback. I wasn't aware of how bad the search feature was on here. Any other feedback is more than welcome.
